SFPL Height & Slew Limiter

The Height & Slew Limiter has been designed to restrict the movements of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) to within operator defined limits inside the machines existing working envelope.

The MEWP Range of Movement Restrictor uses an integrated length and angle module to measure the boom extension and angle.  Additional angle sensors are placed on all the other articulations and the rotation at the slew ring to monitor the platform position.

The Pitch and Roll of the MEWP is also monitored in the display enclosure. 

All system information is fed back to the user interface which processes the data relating to the current position of the platform.  If the platform reaches the restricted working envelope limit the system will disable the functions from further movement. 

An external light tower module is mounted on the main MEWP turret to indicate when the system is active and if it has reached its operator defined envelope limit.

Status Description

The current system status is shown at the top of the screen.  There are three possible status options

• Normal Operation – This indicates the working platform is within the Pre-defined range or restriction
• Reached Envelope Limit – This indicates the working platform is outside the operator defined safe working range envelope and the motion cut has engaged
• Turret Not Level – This indicates that the turret/carrier is not on level ground and the motion cut has engaged

Range Chart

• The MEWP Range of Movement Restrictor displays a fully dynamic working range chart for the working platform.
• The segments on the range chart are colour coded to show the safe working region. 
• The green segment shows available movement within the reduced limit.
• Red shows unavailable range of motion zone (with system activated).
• The rating chart also has an image of the truck and platform showing the current boom location within the chart.
• The current position within the chart is shown via crosshairs.  With the chart grid in 1 metre increments the operator can determine the distance the working platform can be safely moved.
• The operator can zoom into the chart for more detail.  This will zoom into the boom location in the chart, as the boom approaches the edge of the chart the window will slide along to keep the boom location in view.
